Although relatively small, agricultural production in the Marshall Islands is important for the livelihood of the population and the economy. The country has few natural resources, with imports exceeding exports. The high dependency on imported food has resulted in increasing levels of food and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases, which are negatively impacting health systems, families’ health and the national economy. Assistance was therefore requested to enhance food and nutrition security in the country. This was provided through the conduct of training for farmers and relevant staff, the upgrading of nurseries, the provision of livestock and the distribution of awareness-raising material.
