Descripción
Malnutrition remains a critical challenge for Lesotho, impacting its development prospects. The country faces undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and overnutrition, with a 34,5 % stunting rate among children under five. Addressing malnutrition is essential for achieving Lesotho's developmental goals and requires a multi-faceted approach involving all stakeholders to invest in both nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions. The project will be overseen by the FAO Representative in Lesotho, with day-to-day management by the Assistant FAO Representative for Programme and technical oversight by the Nutrition Officer in SFS. The MAFS, through the DNHE, will be the lead government counterpart, coordinating with various stakeholders and institutions. The project aligns with ongoing initiatives, such as the World Bank and IFAD-funded Smallholder Agriculture Development project and provides valuable insights for their implementation. Gender considerations are integral, recognizing women's crucial role in food provision and their vulnerability to malnutrition. Addressing malnutrition among women and children through Food-Based Dietary Guidelines will improve overall wellbeing.
