This regional TCP covered Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam. Its main objective was to assist the countries to prepare for a post-avian influenza rehabilitation programme; although – with our present understanding – the challenge has changed to prepare a strategy for poultry production that is not post, but with Avian Influenza in the short to medium term, at least. The project became operational in April 2004. The main activities undertaken by the project were socio-e conomic impact studies in the countries to identify the effect on the poultry producers, especially those most affected and vulnerable and to describe the major poultry production systems as well as to formulate recommendations for both short-term recovery and longer-term rehabilitation. The purpose of this summary is to produce a cross country synthesis of the data and information generated by the project. These include – apart from the socio-economic impact studies - the outcomes o f national workshops in which the studies were presented and discussed and the proceedings of a final Regional Workshop. Some relevant literature was studied.
