Phytosanitary legislation serves several purposes, most importantly enabling countries to protect their agricultural resources and natural environment from the introduction or spread of pests. Phytosanitary legislation defines the institutional framework necessary for effective plant protection and improves the efficiency and effectiveness of national a uthorities toward this end.
