Across Odisha’s diverse agroecologies, traditional seed systems – once the backbone of resilient farming – have been steadily eroded by the dominance of uniform, input-intensive agriculture. This compendium seeks to reposition indigenous seedkeepers not as passive custodians of tradition, but as active agents of change who are safeguarding climate-resilient crops, local knowledge, and cultural heritage. The compendium brings together lived experiences from districts such as Mayurbhanj, Koraput, and Bargarh in Odisha, and underscores the critical role of community-managed seed systems in enhancing food security, nutrition and farmer autonomy.
