The use of inoculated legumes with nitrogen fixing bacteria is a strategy to improve land reclamation practices. In addition the use of these bacteria can help the establishment of the plants in the field at reduced cost and low environmental impact. The selection and evaluation of bacterial diversity are important, but these kind of results are scarce in the Brazilian Semi-arid. The aim of this study was to select bacteria from angico nodules by means of its phenotypical characteristics and amplification of symbiotic genes by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction). From the 32 bacterial isolates that were evaluated, all of them amplified positively the nifH gene and 24 amplified both the nifH and nodC genes. All bacteria presented fast growth and acidified the culture medium, and diverged in other phenotypical features. These results indicate variability in the amplification profiles and phenotypical features evaluated.
