International soil correlation implies international exchange of analytical data and this requires international comparability of data. A critical analysis of the reliability of laboratory data is important to give the user an idea about the error range all figures are associated with. A chemical or physical analysis determines a numerical yalue of a paranieter T his parametei has a 'true' value which is usually unknown and which the analyst tries to approximate as closely as possible applying certain procedures.
